Dr. Jonas Joerin is the Managing Director of the Illinois Advanced Research Center at Singapore Ltd. He received his BSc in Geography from the University of Zurich, MA in Environmental Impact Assessment and Management from the University of Manchester and PhD in Global Environmental Studies from Kyoto University. His research interests are in understanding human-environmental processes, with a particular focus on analyzing the resilience of individuals in the context of risks and disasters. Jonas is active in contributing to the research fields of community and social resilience as well as food system resilience and has done extensive field work in several countries in Asia, Africa and Europe. He is a founding member of the International Conference on Resilient Systems series.

 

Prior to his current appointment he was the Co-Director (2020-2023) and Director (2023-2025) of the Future Resilient Systems programme, hosted by the Singapore-ETH Centre and funded by the National Research Foundation of Singapore. Before moving to Singapore, he was from 2014-2019 a postdoc and senior scientist at ETH Zurich.
